Thin Provisioning

VTrak S3000 has thin provisioning capabilies that allow administrators to maintain

opmal ulizaon of storage capacity, providing improved cost savings over me

compared to dedicated capacity. With thin provisioning, capacity presented to

the host is larger than physically available, allowing for expansion tasks to occur

without interrupng acve hosts. VTrak S3000 provisioning features allow storage

to be dynamically scaled, redistributed, load-balanced and migrated to new storage

devices should the need arise.

Tradi�onal Provisioning

The tradi�onal server is presented with a 10TB volume. In this

case 4TB is used to store the data leaving 60% of its capacity

unused. Servers with dedicated capacity typically over-provision

to reduce the maintenance overhead of incremental expansion.

Thin Provisioning

The thin provisioned server is presented with a 10TB volume,

more capacity than is actually available. In this case 4TB is

used to store the data leaving only 20% of its capacity unused.

Servers with thin provisioning enable higher capacity
